Annual Report 2019-20

Esteemed chief guest Dr. Divya S Iyer IAS  Guest of honour,Nithya Mammen;The sprouting play back singer , Vicar Provincial Rev.Fr.Dany Capuchin ,Ward Councillor Mrs.Anitha, Manager Rev.Fr. Antony Kurisingal, P.T.A President Mr.PremKumnar & Executive members ,dear parents,wellwishers,teachingand non teaching staff and beloved students,I am so grateful to you all for being with us in this extra special occasion of 47th Annual Day Abhyudayy 2020.

     I would venture to say that it is the very grace of the Almighty which is the reason behind this incredible event & every achievements of our school. Trusting in God’s grace and remembering with gratitude the team work done by the competent staff & students & also all the efforts put by the management , I present before you the Annual Report of the year 2019-20.

                   Marygiri Senior Secondary school, upholding the motto of love all and serve all was established in 1986,by the Capuchins of St.Francis of Assissi Province and is administered effectively by the Provincial Minister Rev. Fr.Joseph Pazhampasseril, under the prudent managership of Rev.Fr.Antony Kurisingal & the competent principalship of Rev.Sr. EdnaMary,with 41 teaching staff,5 special trainers ,One special Educator and 23 non teaching staff.

                  With a great sense of gratitude to the Almighty and with thankful heart to all the supporting hands I present before you, the school Annual Report of the academic year 2019-20, which is a reflection of the school ethos, a statement of our unwavering commitment, the conviction with which we pursue our goals and the very spirit with which we work.

                  With confidence, I can say that, our school provides the best schooling possible with the help of committed proactive team of teaching faculty who have high expectations & adopted a wide variety of innovative teaching practices.

             The academic prowess of Marygirians were proved again in the result of AISSE,SSLC &AISSCE,with full mark scores in Maths,Science & Social Science & a majority score above 90% for AISSE & five full A+ scores and 14 distinctions for SSLC. In the plus two commerce batch, all the students passed out with first class and distinctions. In the plus two science batch, DeviPrasad V R emerged the topper with 96.2% marks & eleven students got distinction. Five students from X CBSE batch & 3 students from +2 were honoured by Southzone Sahodaya Complex for their top scores .The teachers handling maths,science and social science in class X CBSE Mrs.Restina, Mrs.ShinyJimmy, Mrs.SheejaKumari, Mrs.Leena K, Mrs.Arya.P, Mrs.Sheeba & Mrs.Aswathy M were honoured with best teacher award by South Zone Sahodaya Complex for full mark scores in concerned subjects in AISSE.

              As an accomplishment of the insight of the school management headed by Rev.Fr. Antony Kurishingal, a well furnished conference hall was set up and a pre-kg Section was constituted for the kiddies below 4 years of age. To make utilise the technical advancements,Parent and Teacher App were introduced to connect the parents through mobile phones on a daily basis,updating every informations regarding academics and every details of the child .Online fee payment is also facilitated.

              Inorder to revitalise the teachers for the new academic year, a refreshment programme was arranged by the manager Rev.Fr.Antony Kurishingal for the teachers on First June 2019,which was handled by Mrs. Reena charles the former CEO of pesidium English Med. School &  the chair person of phenomena paradise ,who is also a social worker,which was very useful.

          The school re-opened on 6th June 2019 with renewed spirit and enthusiasm. The reopening ceremony was clubbed with Environment day celebration .Emphasis was given to the conservation of nature & our ecosystem through visual treat and saplings were distributed to the children.

                    This year has been a very eventful one for us. Apart from preparing the children to qualify for purely academic demands, special efforts are being made continuously to enable them to face the challenges of the competitive world, so that the students who pass out from our portals should carry forward the values that they have inherited ,excel in whatever they do and be models in the society.

                A creativity inclined student has a positive bent of mind and aesthetic approaches in every work he or she does. Keeping this in mind we have arranged well organized Dance classes, instrumental music classes, yoga practice, Karate training, skating  practice and a well functioning band.

              All the national and international events were given deserving attention, during the academic year.

          Vayanadinam was observed on 19th June, under the direction of Malayalam teachers. Cultural Programmes were performed to pay tribute to the Father of the Library movement Shri.P.N.Panicker and to inculcate reading habit among children.

            Our school office bearers were officially sworn in a very impressive investiture ceremony on 20th June which was presided over by Shri.G.Lakshman IPS, He has installed the head boy, Aryan Sajan Kulathinal of XII, the head girl, Aparna Das H.L of XI ,the house captains and Assistant captains in their responsibilities ,by adoring them with sashes and badges.

            Yoga, which is a part of traditional Indian culture, which helps us to relax our mind & physic, is given its own significance in our school to assist our children to have a well balanced mind setup to handle every challenges with presence of mind. World yoga day was celebrated under the guidance of yoga instructor, visualising various asanas.

          Sports meet of the year was conducted on 4th and 5th of July, which was inaugurated by Mr.Hemanth Kumar, the sub inspector of Peroorkada Police Station. The ward counsellor Mrs.Anitha also attended the function and addressed the students. The students actively participated in all the events in a healthy competitive spirit, with great vigour & enthusiasm.

    The school SPG meeting was conducted on 10th July in the conference hall which was led by the sub inspector of Peroorkada Police station. Ward counsellor Mrs.Anitha and Nirbhaya Volunteers also participated in the meeting in which directions were given to the children regarding how to react against drug abuse, child abuse and against other anti-social activities.  

      Manager`s Day along with Blue and Green House feast was celebrated on 12th July with great pomp and show. The principal appreciated the manager for his dedicated service and commitment, in the functioning of the school, meeting every requirements including infrastructural facilities. The school counsellor Rev Fr. George Kooliath, staff and students also greeted him on the day.

                             For the effective functioning of the school, it is important to build working relationship among parents and teachers. The PTA general body meetings for various sections,LKG to 1st STD ,2nd to 4th std, 5th to 7th std ,and 8th to 12 std were held on 15th ,16th,17th,and 18th of July respectively, in which various discussions were held and 8 representatives were selected to the PTA executive body. In the PTA executive meeting conducted on 22nd July, Mr.Pradeep Kumar was selected as PTA President and Mrs. Nirmala Kumari was selected as PTA vice President.

                       On 22nd July and on 4th November, training Programme was conducted in the school for the girls of Vth to 12th STD, guided by the city police officers and Nirbhaya Volunteers, on the defence mechanism against sexual attack.

                      Arts festival of the Academic year was conducted on 1st and 2nd of August, which was inaugurated by Mr.M.R.Gopakumar the famous film actor. It was a wonderful experience for our children and provided an ample opportunity to bring out the best in them. Students participated in various individual and group items in an appreciable way; with great enthusiasm.

               Independence Day was celebrated on 15th August in its true spirit and with Patriotism. Our manager Rev.Fr.Antony Kurishingal hoisted the National Flag on the occasion. On the same day, under the guidance of the Manager & the Principal our students handed over the sanitary items contributed by the students to the Peroorkada Police station, in order to distribute to the flood affected people.

                           Transcending the shadow lines of caste and religion, Onam was celebrated on 6th September. The film director Viji Thampy inaugurated the Onam celebration in a very special way. The function was graced by the Manager Rev.Fr, Antony Kurisingal, Principal Rev.Sr. Edna Mary, Legal Advisor, Mr.Rajan and PTA president Mr.PremKumar On the same day Teachers day was also celebrated. The students and the school management honored the teachers.

                       Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated on October 1st with due significance. Various programmes were conducted in honor of the history maker; imbibing the spirit of patriotism. On the same day, a pledge was taken by the students to make our environment plastic free.

                     Science Fair Einsteinia 2019 was conducted on 18th October, exhibiting various science, social science and maths working models and still models in a vivid manner. The students came forward with noval and creative ideas, based on the topics given separately for each section, creating a scientific temper . Together with it , food fest was also conducted in the campus for the first time,which turned out to be a grand success due to the whole hearted support of the students and parents. The purpose was to extend our handful support to Master Anaswar staying at Vellarada who lost one of his legs in an accident. On 29th October ,our school team visited him and handed over Rs50,000 which he received with thankful heart.

                                 On 28th October Health Inspector Mr.Harish Kumar has taken an awareness class for the children about Dengue Fever and its eradication measures.On 2nd December the Health Inspector Mr.Prasanth from Health department visited our school and gave a short class to the teachers to take precautions to avoid snake bite and to maintain a healthy and clean campus.

                  Principal’s Day together with Red and Yellow house feast was celebrated on 30th October with great mirth and joy. The Manager Rev.Fr.Antony Kurishingal, Former Manager Rev.Fr.Jude Thadeus & the counsellor Rev.Fr.George Kooliath greeted the Principal. The students peformed variety entertainment programmes in honour of the principal.

               November 1st, Kerala Piravi day was celebrated under the guidance of Malayalam Department, with a plethora of events, highlighting the rich cultural tradition of Kerala,bringing in mind the worthiness of our motherland.

             On 8th nov, a magic show by Dr.Nath was arranged in the campus by Nirbhaya volunteers, in order to create awareness among students about the need for women empowerment ,how to tackle Alcoholism & drug addiction, the need to avoid junk food, the need to conserve water & several other social issues. The programme was very energetic & informative.

                 Children’s Day was celebrated on Nov14th with Mr.Aranmula  Hariharaputhran who was the state award winner for the best scientific book and the chief editor of scientific encyclopedia, as the chief guest. The students enjoyed the day, performing various items and showcasing their talents.

                 On 7th July ,Hubs of Learning meeting was conducted at Jyothis Central School, which was attended by Mrs.Shiny Jimmy & Mrs. Arya .P, in which the programme schedule for the year was fixed .Accordingly, a Quiz competition was conducted at St.Shantal School,Malamukal on 19/09/2019 in which our students occupied 4th place.

            As decided by Hubs of learning a pedagogical training programme was conducted at Jyothis Central School on 10th October which was attended by five of our teachers.

           As per the schedule of hubs of learning science exhibition was conducted at Kairali Vidhyalaya Nedumangadu on 14th Nov in which ,Aryan Sajan Kulathinal & Rahul H Nair of XII won 1st place in science working model, showing Rocket launching ,with special mentioning.

            Aparna Das H L & SaruKrishna of plus one received 1st place in Maths still model. Not only that Adarsh S Kumar & Abhilash M of STD IX won 2nd place in science working model. Arsha Sebastian & Christiano John of VIth STD won 2nd place in Science still model.

                As proposed by Hubs of learning, an Art integrated training programme was organized in our school on 19th October, led by the resource person Mr.Ramachandran which was attended by all of  our teachers and 25 teachers, from the member schools of Hubs of learning.

          An Orientation Programme on assisting disabled children was conducted on 3rd July, which was attended by 3 of our teachers. A seminar on National Eductaion policy was conducted on 22nd July at Sarvodhaya Vidhyalaya which was precided over by reputed Regional officer Mr.Sachin Takur,was attended by Mrs.ShinyJimmy & Mrs.Arya.

          Our teachers, teaching in STD X and XII have participated in capacity building programmes organized by CBSE, during the month of August on concerned subjects, which they handle.

          Our KG teachers attended a special training programme at Bob residency on 23rd Nov .Eleven teachers from our school attended a workshop on Modern trends in effective teaching and experimental learning in the ARR public School, Nettayam.

              Apart from classroom learning, to provide alternate educational opportunities to the children through direct observation, our senior students were taken to ISRO to witness the Rocket launching. They have also visited the Tea factory at Ooty and have made the site visit of historical places including Mysore palace, as a part of long tour of 4 days spanning from 15th to 19th of Nov, and it was a wonderful experience for the children, as it provided both information and recreation.

    A one day picnic was arranged for KG and primary children to magic planet and they had a nice time there. A one day tour to Wonderla, Lulumall and a film show was conducted for students from std v onwards on 28th of Nov & the children enjoyed a lot.

    The academic year witnessed a lot of attainments in arts, sports & literary events, outside the campus.

                        In the sahodaya sports meet, Anandhu A V of STD X won 2nd place in javelin throw, under 16 and Anandhu Suresh of plus two won third place in Javelin throw under 18.

               In the Southzone Sahodaya Arts and Literary competitions,Ancy M R of std X won first place in Malayalam versification,Devi Priya V.R of STD IX attained 2nd place in Malayalam Recitation & Ancy M R of Std X won third place in Hindi story writing.

      In the south zone sahodaya kids fest, our thiruvathira team secured third place and many of our kids got A grade for various items .

         DeviPriya of Std IX has participated in a series of competitive events outside the campus and has obtained credit worthy achievements which require special mentioning she has won 2nd place in the Drama song & Light music competition organized by swathy Thirunal Sangeetha Sabha,on 16th April, 2nd place in classical music organized by Vivekananda centre at palayam on 1st june & 1st place in Light Music competition conducted by Swathi Thirunal School of Music on 18th August . In the film song competition organized by Music legends at Poojapura,she has won 2nd place in the Malayalam Recitation Competition conducted by ulloor smaraka samiti ,on 16th Nov,she has won first place Not only that she has turned out to be the Kalathilakam in sathyam kalolsav on 12th October.She was also declared as the kalathilakam by state library council at district level on 13th October.Again she was crowned as Kalthilakam by Balajanasakhyam on 9th Nov I use this opportunity to appreciate DeviPriya for these unparallel attainments.

     It is a matter of great pride for me to announce the noteworthy achievements of Roja Roy of Std VI during this academic year, outside the campus.

     In varnolsavam 2019, she has won 1st place at District level English Extempore Competition & at the state level she has secured 1st place. In the literary competitions conducted by All kerala Balajana sakhyam powered by Malayala Manorama,she attained 1st place in both English Elocution  & English Essay writing,& 2nd place in Eng.story writing. She has received 1st place with cash prize in English Elocution conducted by Malayala Manorama at zonal level & won 3rd place in District level quiz competition conducted by Malayala manorama. In Sahithyolsavam 2019, she has won 2nd place in both English Essay writing & English story writing as well as 3rd place in English poem writing in the zonal level competition.Again in the state level literary competition conducted by all Kerala Balajana Sakhyam powered by Malayala Manorama she has won 2nd place for Eng. Extempore . With great pleasure I congratulate Roja Roy for the handful of achievements in this tender age.

                    If I were to put all the events of our school in nutshell,all the activities are meant to encourage the children to observe, to explore, to experiment, to probe, to analyse ,to confront problems & find the solutions, finally to develop the skills essential to face the future.

             All the meritorious works of the school has been possible only due to the favour of the God and due to the ample support, guidance, encouragement &provision of all requirements by the school management headed by Rev.Fr. Antony Kurishingal under the Super vision of Provincial Rev.Fr.Joseph Pazhampasseril and the team work of well qualified & competent teaching faculty and nonteaching staff under the stewardship of the Principal, & also the support and co-operation of all the parents,children and the wellwishers.            Let me conclude my words with great sense of gratitude to the Almighty and all the helping hands. Let us hope for a better tomorrow.

        The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge. Let the radiance of knowledge swipe away every darkness from our minds.
